Speaking of India, the temperature in Wardha in Maharashtra had recently reached 47 degrees Celsius.
Not only that, in some districts of Gujarat also the temperature was from 44 to 46 degrees.
While the number of deaths due to heat in some parts of the country has also been significant, the question is to what extent we can tolerate heat.?
Research in this regard has been going on for the last several years. Two centuries ago, Charles Bladen, Botanist Joseph and Daniel Solender of the Royal Society of London tested themselves to see how much heat a man could tolerate. They prepared a small room and made it very warm. The room temperature was kept above 100 degrees Celsius and then the three researchers entered it. They could only stay in this room for 2 minutes. Before their eyes an omelette was ready from an egg.
However, all three researchers were safe due to perspiration from their bodies. The system for keeping the human body cool also relieves it from the scorching heat. Increased heat releases perspiration from the body and cools the skin, but this perspiration also flushes out water and other elements from the body and dehydrates the body so that if we do not drink water immediately, there is a risk to life.
'Scientists’ affiliated with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the country’s top research institute, According to‘Dr. T.P.Baburajan, excreted up to 2% of water does not harm the body, but when the amount of excreted water reaches upto 4% to 5%, kidney failure can also occur.
Body temperature remains 36.5 degrees Celsius. It is possible to change it up to 1 degree. The body maintains the same temperature as it tries. But if the body temperature rises like this, hyperthermia condition is created. This condition can cause dizziness and mental imbalance. The arteries widen and the blood flow begins to slow down.
The ability to tolerate heat varies from person to person. This capability can be enhanced through training. DRDO trains Indian soldiers for this. This is because soldiers operating tanks on the hot soil of Rajasthan have to endure temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius and they can do so.
